Project Shepherd is a non-profit organization run by the City of Lakewood and the Rotary Club of Lakewood. Since 1972, this neighbor-to-neighbor assistance program has collected canned goods, dry staples, toys, backpacks and personal care items to distribute to Lakewood families in need throughout the year and around the holiday season.
The Lakewood Education Foundation (LEF) annually distributes dozens of grants to school teachers for classroom enhancements and other special projects.
Penny Pines is a reforestation and beautification project where money collected is used to replant trees in National Forest land in California that have been devastated by fires.
Fisher House builds comfort homes where military and veteran's families can stay free of charge while loved ones are in the hospital. The home we help is located next to the Long Beach Veteran's Hospital. Once a month a volunteer group of members donate, prepare and serve dinner to the residents at the house.
Lakewood offers an Adaptive Recreation Program (ARP) at Bloomfield Park.
Recreation staff plan, implement, and supervise weekly activities for all participants in attendance. Activities include arts and crafts, athletics, life skills workshops, special events, and small trips to local businesses. In addition to weekly programming, Bloomfield Park staff facilitate at least one special event each month for participants.
The Weingart Senior Center, located near the corner of Lakewood and Candlewood, is full of activities and services for seniors, who are at least 50 years of age, to participate in recreational activities. Seniors age 60 and older may also take part in low cost lunches.
Our donation helps fund Lakewood libraries, including their children's programs, craft sessions and family movie nights.
Lakewood Women's Club donates to the local Meals on Wheels program, allowing Lakewood residents the ability to maintain their independence and dignity at home.
Veterans Administration Long Beach Health Care System supports services for Veterans from all eras and their caregivers, giving Veterans greater access to health care in the community.
Your generous donation will fund our mission.
We also collect and donate various items, for example, eye glasses and pull tabs.
